3 easy steps to complete your Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA).

Before you start your FAFSA, you should have already decided on the colleges or universities you are interested in.

What documents do I need to complete my FAFSA application?

  • Your Social Security Number. Be sure it is correct!
  • Your driver’s license (if any)
  • Your W-2 Forms or other records of money earned for the past year.
  • You (and your spouse’s, if you are married) Federal Income Tax Returns.
    • IRS 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ
    • Foreign Tax Return, or
    • Tax Return for Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Marshall Islands, the Federal States of Micronesia, or Palau
  • Your Parents’ Federal Income Tax Return (if you are a dependent student – Under the age of 24)
  • Your untaxed income records
    • Veterans benefits records
    • Child support received
    • Worker’s compensation
  • Your current bank statements
  • Your current business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stock, bond and other investment records.
  • Your alien registration or permanent resident card (if you are not a U.S. citizen)

Now that you have your list of schools and have gathered the documents listed above, you are now ready to start your FAFSA application.

STEP 1 - Apply for a PIN. A PIN is a 4-digit number that is used in combination with your Social Security Number, name, and date of birth to identify you as someone who has the right to access your own personal information on Federal Student Aid Web sites, such as FAFSA on the Web. Click on the link to apply for a PIN:  www.pin.ed.gov

STEP 2To receive student financial aid, you need to fill out a FAFSA every academic school year. FAFSA on the Web allows you to complete and submit your financial aid application electronically. Click on the link to complete your FAFSA: www.fafsa.ed.gov

STEP 3 -       FAFSA follow up. View your results online!  You can check the status of your application, make corrections to a processed FAFSA, and get other information, such as your Student Aid Report (SAR). Click on the link to view your results online: www.fafsa.ed.gov
